Fundamentals Rant

June 20, 2012 - Leave a Response

These days, I’ve been hitting the books on fundamentals. What exactly are they? Lines, Shadows, Textures, Anatomy, etc. Although my work is quite stylized, there has been major improvements once I studied the basics. I still have a lot to learn, but I ain’t gonna give up yet! :iconchallengeacceptedplz:

So why go for the Fundamentals? It’s just boring spheres and doing still lifes ;x. I cannot say otherwise, but if you want to improve your art then going for the fundamentals and studying real life is the way to go. There’s quite a difference from a flat-looking Anime piece to something that looks like it has life breathed into it.

My crappy work from ages past

Gonzalo Ordóñez Arias’s awesome elf piece

Definitely a difference, yeah?

Tutorials can only get you so far because they only show you how to do something in the Artist’s style, not why it looks awesome. I can compare Fundamentals to having a good foundation. If you don’t have that foundation, it will tumble.

But I also got to warn you about applying too much of the fundamentals. They are rules to guide your work, but not to reign over it.. I remember studying Renoir. He created wonderful, vibrant pieces at first, but then he decided to focus more on the fundamentals and in my opinion, it lost its life. ([link] was one of his older works and his older work (WARNING: Nudity) [link] ) If you focus too much on the rules, your art will look stiff and lifeless.

So did I just confuse you? I hope not, but I’ll just repeat what others have been saying: You learn the rules of art just so you know how to break them better. Fair enough? XD

Maple Art Commission Sale!

October 26, 2011 - Leave a Response

REVAMP SOON! I’m making the price guide easy to look at, however the prices will/will not change. If you talked to me and I told you a price for the art you requested (there was only three people on this) then that price stays unless I made the price cheaper, then the cheaper price will go through. I can only tell you that instead of Maple Art commissions, it will converge into actual commissions where you pay with Paypal. You can still use items from the list to barter with, but I will no longer be using mesos or NX as transaction.

^_^ JinJoo’s Maple Art Commissions ^_^

Art for you!

If you haven’t heard…

An innocent scroll scrubbed my crappy Elemental Wand 5 nice and clean! 😀

Trouble is, I lack the GM/WS/etc to make it pro.

So here’s the deal: even though my 50% off sale is over, Galicians can still get a deal if you provide certain items. Call it the, I-Need-It Sale or something…blagh.

So how’s it going to work? If you provide any of these items, I can shave off 50% off the total price (and your payment will include the value of the item provided). Just bring it in and see how much credit you can get! Plus, if you bring in a White Scroll, but wanted a full body, it will still be 50% if you pay the rest with mesos.

But yeah, there are limitations. They have to be on the list and I can only take a certain amount of some of the listed items. Like Maple Warrior 20, if it passes, I don’t need it anymore and it’ll be taken off the list.

If you’re in other servers, the only payment I can take are 10 attack Work Gloves (u/h, no pot, no EE).

Here’s the list of items I need. Remember, except for the Work Gloves, this only applies to the server Galicia. I will update this list if any changes are made:

-White Scrolls
-GM Wand Scrolls (limited)
-Super Miracle Cubes
-10 attack Work Gloves (u/h, no pot, no enhancements)
-Maple Warrior 20 (limited)
-Maple Warrior 30 (limited)

Even I don’t know when this sale will end so…

You know you want to. :O

Crayon Calendar guidelines

July 20, 2011 - Leave a Response

The guild calendar is a pretty neat tool and any Crayon can go up to it and add an event; but, this is a warning to please don’t abuse this. If we see anyone using it for things it’s not supposed to be used for, we’ll take away this privilege and you’d have to get your event checked up with Amanda or other Jr. Masters. So please review what goes on the calendar and what doesn’t go on. After reading this, you’d think “well, Jinjoo…”

Yeah, I agree. Most of this is common sense, but sadly most of our rules is because someone had a…*ahem* moment. ;x

-Guild events such as bossing, training, or general guild get-together events.

-Server Checks and other official Maplestory events.

-Guild Birthdays (only if you want it on there. Nobody should put someone else’s birthday; if you want your birthday on there, you should do it yourself. Reason is, some people like their birthday secret so even if you know their birthday, don’t put it on there. Let them put it on there.)

-Your personal projects and other stuff. Only Maplestory and Crayon related events here. If you want to do this, get your own calendar ;x

-Your FM selling dates. The calendar is not the FM, so don’t use this to promote your wares.

If you have doubts if an event fits the criteria, just ask one of the Jr.s or Amanda about it.

Format and other things to remember

-Please put a description. Don’t care how short it is, just put it up there.

-Please put your name or ign at the end of your description.

-Don’t assume everyone in the guild will know your event, ESPECIALLY if you put it 1 hour before your scheduled event. Use some common sense on this and gently remind people of your event, without spamming or nagging about it.

With all due respect,
